Most people would probably say that they attempt to save money whenever possible. For some homeowners in South Florida, that means that they will attempt to circumvent the realtor process when they are trying to sell their homes, instead opting to pursue the “for sale by owner” route. But, that process can be tricky as well, and there are more than a few steps to follow. In Part 1 of this multi-part series, we will take a look at some of the first steps that South Florida homeowners should probably take when they are beginning the “for sale by owner” process.
First, there is the most obvious step – actually deciding to sell your home. But, the obviousness of this step does not take away from its importance. Entering into a real estate transaction of any kind is a big commitment, and there are always a number of factors to take into consideration. Does my local market currently have favorable conditions for sellers? Will I be able to get the most return on my investment? These factors, and many others, could influence a homeowner’s initial decision to sell his or her property. Getting the right information about these factors can be very beneficial.
Next, sellers need to put themselves in the mindset of what a prospective buyer would want to see in their property. This often means cleaning the home up – much more so than the usual “spring cleaning.” Any needed repairs should probably be completed as well, to make the home as appealing as possible to potential buyers.
From there, a South Florida homeowner who is taking the “for sale by owner” route will need to market his or her home much like a realtor would. For the most part, this means making sure that your home is listed on all of the right online home-hunting websites.
